Hey , last Wednesday I did something I haven't done in a long time... I packed up my acoustic and went to an open mic! I play live at the LGIL Guitar Retreats (3 spaces left for July if you're interested!) But this is meticulously rehearsed and I perform in a duo, which is VERY different to being solo! So I was nervous. But I was thinking, "well at least people won't know I'm a guitar teacher" I was going incognito! I walked through the door
and the open mic host asked my name. I said Drue James and someone sitting next to him said "I watch your lessons on YouTube" At that point someone else recognised me and the host googled me. The cat was well and truly out of the bag! I even went on first and I told everyone that it all started for me 22 years ago at this same open mic! I played Wicked Game and an original song called These Visions Before I left the same person who spotted me said he'd a few of my lessons and it was his first ever open
mic performance that evening. It felt great to know that I'd been part of his journey up to this momentous point. We're not all ready to do open mics, but it can be a great goal to aim for one day. I'm glad I did it, and I might go along again! |
