I Will Beat You |
Hey , “The only person you should try to be better than, is the person you were yesterday.” A reminder that life's competition is only for oneself, and anything else just feeds the ego. But we can be inspired by others abilities. Noel Gallagher (Oasis), Mikael Åkerfeldt (Opeth)
and John Butler are all guitarists that have inspired me. But setting out to "beat" them, to be the best etc (even if you achieve that) will inevitably lead to suffering given enough time. Unlike professional sport music is subjective. There is no overall winner! Music gives a place for expression, skill and open mindedness to flourish. There is technique
to playing an instrument. A science if you will. But mastering the technique does not guarantee a win! It does not guarantee a big following or a hit song! It's different to sport in this way. I for one love sport (especially 8 ball poll and archery) as well as music. I can admire the skill in both forms. But I feel sport is often problem solving and skill perfection, where as music
offers the same elements but with creativity and expression. What are your thoughts on this? Keep on playing, Drue James www.LearnGuitarInLondon.com Not a LGIL Premium Member
